So you got certified .....Now what?

Getting the most out of your QMS

Many companies go through the ISO certification process... receive their certificate and ......then....Nothing.

What companies have to realise is that getting certified is not the end of the process. You've talked the talk in order to get the certificate... now its time to walk the walk. In order to get the most out of your system, you have to implement the suggestions raised. And not in a half-hearted just ticking boxes kind of way, but really observing and understanding the requirements of the standard and producing the necessary documentation. Now this really shouldn't be a burdensome prospect. If you are overwhelmed by it then it probably means your processes are overcomplicated. Remember these standards have been developed in order to simplify your business processes.

Does everyone Know?

Another common failing is failure to communicate the QMS and its contents to employees.

Trust me, this will really negate the effectiveness of the system. If the people who were involved in implementing it are the only ones who know of its very existence, then what was the point? So make sure the new QMS is communicated throughout the company from the cleaning lady to the directors. Everybody really needs to come on board and understand the vision and objectives of the company as laid out in the quality manual.

Shout it from the roof tops!

As well as communicating it to your staff, you also need to let all your clients, suppliers and any other interested parties know about your new ISO status. Failing to do so is really a missed opportunity to further promote you business and services. Being certified to an ISO standard has been proven to open doors that previously would have been firmly locked shut to you.

So don't rest on your laurels after certification, remember ISO certification is only the beginning of the journey to unlocking the true potential of your business.

We hope you enjoy the ride!
